How To Show (or Hide) the Menu Bar in Visual Studio Code

By default, the menu bar is displayed at the top of the window, and it has all the actions that we can go and access. The menu bar visibility setting lets you configure how the menu bar is displayed in VS Code windows. Let’s look at how to show the menu bar in Visual Studio Code.

Show the Menu Bar

You can still access all of those actions in the menu bar by going over to the sidebar, known as Activity Bar. Follow these steps to unhide the menu bar in VS Code:

  1. From the sidebar, click on the three horizontal line toggle button. Next, select the View option, and then choose Appearance.
  2. From the sub-menu, check the Show Menu Bar option.

You will notice the menu bar appear on the top-level window.

Hide the Menu Bar

To hide the top menu bar, do the following:

  1. From the top-level “View” menu, choose the Appearance option.
  2. From the sub-menu, uncheck the Show Menu Bar option.

You will notice the menu bar hidden from the top-level window.
