There are several reasons for changing or resetting your password. You might have had the password for too long or suspect someone else might know your password. You might also have forgotten it and want to reset it. Regardless, you can easily change or reset your password in Windows.
Change or Reset Your Password in Windows 11 Using Reset Password Option
You can use this method if you don’t remember your password.
- In the Windows 11 log-in screen, type anything in the Password field and press Enter.
- You’ll see three security questions. Answer them and press Enter.
- Now, you can enter a new password. Type it again to confirm the password. You can press Enter, and you’ll be logged in automatically.
Change your password using Control Panel
- Press the Windows key and search for Control Panel. Click Open to launch the Control Panel app.
- Under User Accounts, click on Change account type.
- You can see all the users on your computer now. Double-click on the user you’d like to change the password for.
- Now, tap on Change the password.
- Enter your current password. Then, enter the new password you want. Type it again for confirmation. Give a hint that will help you remember your password if you forget it. Finally, tap on Change password.
Changing your password using Windows Settings
- Press the Windows key and search for “settings”. Click Open to launch the Settings app. Alternatively, you can open Settings using the keyboard shortcut Windows + I.
- On the left panel, click on Accounts. Now select Sign-in options.
- Click on the upward arrow next to the Password. You can now see the Change option. Click on it.
- Enter your current password. Click on Next.
- Now enter the new password. Type it again to confirm the password. Enter a hint to remember your password in case you forget it later. Tap on Next.
- Click on Finish, and your new password will be set.
Changing your password using Ctrl + Alt + Delete
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your keyboard. A blue screen with options will show. Click on Change a password.
- Enter your old password. Type in your new password. Enter it again to confirm.
At this point, you’ll need to enter both old and new passwords in the relevant fields. - Once you’re done, click on the right arrow next to the Confirm password textbox to change your password.
Once you’ve entered the old and new passwords, press the arrow key to confirm.
