How to add someone to a Slack channel

On a computer

First, let’s take a look at how to add someone new to a Slack Channel.

  1. Go to Slack and open your workspace by clicking Launch Slack.

  6. To invite people already in your workspace, type in their name, check the radio box next to their name then select Add.

  7. To add new members to your channel, type in their Slack email addresses separated by a comma. You can add as many people as you like. After that, click Add.

  8. Next, select if the people you’re adding are your coworkers or from another company. Then click Next.

  9. Slack will ask for your permission to send invitations to new members. Click Send Invitation.

  10. Slack will notify you that they have sent the invitations to the members. Click Done to complete.

    11. New members will appear in the “Direct Messages” section or are shown as new people icons in the top right corner of the channel window.

On Android or iPhone

To add people to a Slack channel on Android or iPhone, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Slack app and log in to your Slack account.

Channel Tools makes it simple to add numerous users to a Slack channel at once. It also allows you to export all channel members into a CSV file.

How to set up Channel Tools in a Slack channel

    1. Click on the drop-down icon next to your workspace name.

    1. To enable Channel Tools to add new members, you need to give it access to your channel. Type
      /invite @Channel Tools

      in the message section.

  1. Click on the paper plane icon to send the message. Channel Tools now has permission to import or export people into the channel.

How to use Channel Tools to add all members of Slack workspace to a new channel

  1. Select the channel you would like to import people to.

    /invite_all

    to add all the workspace members to your channel in the message section. Then, click on the paper plane icon to send the message.

How to add members of one Slack channel to another channel

  1. If you want to import members from an old channel into a new channel, type
    /invite_channel #old_channel

    in your new channel message section. Then, send the message.

  2. Next, grant Channel Tools access to import new members from another channel by clicking Yes, invite all members.
