Adjusting row heights in Google Sheets makes your data more organized and easier to read. This guide explains different ways to change row height in Google Sheets.
Method #1: Change row height using your cursor
The easiest way to change the row height is to do it manually with your cursor. Let’s say you want to change the row height of row 1, as shown in the example below:

Follow these steps:
- Hover your cursor over the row divider line until you see a double arrow icon.
Hover the mouse on the line that divides the rows. - Click and drag the line up or down to the desired height. Then, release the mouse to set the height.
Click and drag the mouse to resize the row height. - You can follow the same process to change the heights of other rows.
- Select the rows you want to resize.
Select the rows. - Right-click one of the highlighted cells to bring up the Context menu. Choose Resize rows.
Choose Resize Rows. - In the “Resize rows” dialogue box, check the Fit to data and click OK. Alternatively, you can enter a specific row height in pixels, then press OK.
Select Fit to data, then press OK. - The selected rows will be resized.

Method #3: Change row height by double-clicking
You can quickly change row heights by double-clicking the row divider. Follow these steps:
- Select the rows you want to resize.
Select the rows. - Hover your cursor over the row divider line until you see a double arrow icon.
Hover cursor on the line that divides the rows. - Then, double-click to resize the selected rows.
Double-click on the divider between selected rows. - The rows will be resized to fit the text within them.
Row height is adjusted to fit the text.
