Indenting makes data easier to read and understand, thus improving productivity. Unlike Microsoft Excel, there is no native way to indent your data in Google Sheets. However, there is a workaround that allows you to quickly indent.
Indenting Google Sheets Cells
Follow the below steps to indent in Google Sheets cells:
- Select the cell or cells you want to indent.
- From the Format menu, choose the Number option. Then, from the sub-menu, select Custom number format.
- In the ‘Custom number formats’ dialog box, enter a blank space for each desired indentation, followed by an @ symbol, then click Apply. In this example, I specify that I need an indent of 4 space characters through “ @” (ignoring the quotes).
