Tasks are easier to handle when they’re planned on your schedule. Setting a reminder will help you remember what tasks you have and when to do them. This guide will show you how to easily create a reminder on your Slack workspace so that you never forget a task again.
How to set up a reminder in Slack without using commands
You should note that this method only works when creating reminders for yourself. If you want to send reminders to teammates or a different channel, you should use commands (explained in the next section).
On computer
- Click on the plus(+) icon in your workspace messaging section.
- Type in a reminder and click Set yourself a reminder in the search bar.
- After that, pick the reminder schedule. You can also add the reminder description, Then click Create.
- You will receive a notification from Slackbot confirming that the reminder has been created.
- You can delete the reminder by clicking Delete or view all reminders by clicking View Reminders.
On mobile
- Click on the plus(+) icon in your workspace messaging section.
- In the pop-up, click Shortcuts.
- Then select Set myself a reminder.
- After that, add the reminder schedule. You can also add the reminder description and select Done. Finally, click Create.
- You will receive a notification from Slackbot confirming the reminder. If you want to delete the reminder, click Delete. To view other reminders, click View Reminders.
How to set up reminders using Slack commands
Slack allows you to set reminders using this slash command.
/remind
After this command, add who is assigned the reminder, what they will be reminded of, and the reminder schedule. You can set reminders for yourself, a team member, or a channel. However, for recurrent reminders, you can only create them for yourself.
- Hover to the workspace messaging section
- In the messaging section, type in the command and click on the plane paper icon to send the message.
- To create a reminder for yourself, type the command below in the messaging section;
/remind [me] ["task"] [time]
for example
/remind me "Pick up computer" today.
- To create a reminder for someone else, type the command below in the messaging section;
/remind [@someone] ["task"] [when]
for example
/remind @teammember "review the script" June 11 at 10 am.
The date format can be June 11, 11 June, or in American date style (mm/dd/yyyy).
- To create a reminder for a channel, type the command below in the messaging section;
/remind [#channel] ["task"] [when]
for example
/remind #general "Answer the Survey" At 00:00 CET.
You can use a 24-hour format (00:00) or a 12-hour format (12 am).
- Slackbot will send you a confirmation message after each command. You can delete the reminder by clicking Delete or viewing all the reminders by selecting View Reminders.
- Slackbot will notify the respective person or Slack at the assigned time.
- If you want to check all the available reminders, type this command in the message section and click the paper plane icon to send.

How to Set Message Reminders in Slack
You can direct Slack to remind you of a message someone sent to you or sent to a channel.
On computer
- Hover over to the message you would like to set a reminder.
- Click on the three vertical dots on your right.
- The menu will appear; move your mouse to Remind me about this.
- Select the reminder schedule from the list. If the time you would like is not in the options displayed, click Custom.
- Add the date and time, then click Create.
- Slackbot will confirm the reminder.
On mobile
- Touch and hold the message to set a reminder.
- A menu will pop up; select Remind me.
- At “When would you like to be reminded,” pick the time to be notified of the task.
- Pick the reminder schedule from the list provided. If the preferred schedule is not available, click Custom.
- Set your preferred date and time. After that, click Create.
- Slackbot will confirm the reminder.
