Creating workflow in Asana is easy. It is possible to create workflows from scratch or use pre-defined templates for different types of projects and tasks in Asana. You can then share projects and assign tasks to your teammates while keeping a track of their progress.
In this guide, we will walk you through detailed steps of how you can set up a workflow in Asana; both from scratch and using the templates. Let’s begin!
Create Project Workflows From Scratch
- Log into your Asana account and select Home from the left panel.
- Click on the plus icon in the top-right corner of the window.
- Select Project from the context menu.
Select Project - In the next window, you will be presented with three options for your new project. To create a project workflow from scratch, select Blank project.
Create a blank project - Enter a project title and select your preferred view. Then click Continue to proceed.
Name your project - Then, click on Go to Project in the next window.
Launch the newly created project - Once the project is created, click Share to invite your team members.
Share your project with teammates - In the next pop-up, enter the email addresses of the members that you want to share the project with. You can also click on the Copy project link button if you want to share the project link with your team.
Enter email addresses of teammates - Next, it is time to add tasks and subtasks. For that, head over to your preferred view tab.
- Click on + Add task to proceed.
Create a new task - Add a task name and click on that task.
Rename the newly created task - You can now select Assignee, due date, projects, and description for the task.

Create Project Workflows With Templates
- Log into your Asana account and select Home from the left panel.
- Click on the plus icon in the top-right corner of the window.
- Select Project from the context menu.
- In the next window, select Use a template.
Create a new project using a template - Now choose a template from the list of options available in the left panel. We are moving forward with Work Requests in this method.
- Once you have selected a template, click on the Use template button in the right pane.
Select a template - Add a project name and click on Create project.
- Once the project is created, add tasks in the relevant column by clicking on the plus icon associated with the title.
- You can now select Assignee, due date, projects, and description for the task.
- If you want to add your teammates to this project, click Share to invite your team members.
- In the next pop-up, enter the email addresses of the members that you want to share the project with. You can also click on the Copy project link button if you want to share the project link with your team.
