The L3 and R3 buttons can be hard to find on your PS5 controller because they’re not actually “buttons”. They’re simply your controller analog sticks when you press them down.
The L3/R3 buttons were first introduced on the PSOne with the first DualShock controller. They remain the same across DualShock 2 for the PS2, DualShock 3 for the PS3, DualShock 4 for the PS4, and lastly DualSense 5 for the PS5.
To use the L3/R3 buttons:
- For the L3 button: Press the left analog stick downwards until you hear a click.
- For the R3 button: Press the right analog stick downwards until you hear a click.
These buttons are mostly used in games as additional inputs. For example, the L3 is usually a sprint button while the R3 is for melee attacks in most shooter games.
